Boca de Yuma Tour – Hidden Caribbean Coast

Escape the resorts and discover one of the Dominican Republic’s best-kept secrets. This tour takes you to the authentic fishing village of Boca de Yuma, where you’ll explore a scenic river canyon, spot pelicans and iguanas, visit ancient Taíno caves, relax on a secluded Caribbean beach, and, for the adventurous, swim in a hidden blue-water cave deep inside the national park.

Itinerary

Boca de Yuma
Our journey begins in the peaceful fishing village of Boca de Yuma, overlooking the Caribbean Sea on the edge of Cotubanamá National Park.

River Canyon Boat Trip
We cruise along the Yuma River as it winds between rocky shores. Pelicans glide overhead, iguanas sunbathe on the rocks, and many bird species can be seen along the river. We’ll also pass a cave whose entrance is sealed with stones. According to local legend, pirates once hid their treasure there.

Hidden Caribbean Beach
Leaving the river, we enter the Caribbean Sea and reach a secluded beach hidden behind a rocky cape. Accessible only by boat, it is usually completely deserted.

Taíno Cave
Explore a cave with authentic Taíno petroglyphs, left by the island’s first inhabitants centuries before the arrival of Europeans.

Blue Water Cave (Optional)
The most adventurous part of the tour. Reaching the cave requires climbing over rocks, so this stop is recommended only for confident participants. Inside awaits a hidden lake with incredibly clear blue water—one of the least-visited natural places in the region.

Seafood Lunch (Optional)
Boca de Yuma is well known for its seafood restaurants. Enjoy fresh local seafood served on terraces overlooking the Caribbean Sea, often at lower prices than in Punta Cana.

Juan Ponce de León House Museum
Visit the former home of Juan Ponce de León, the explorer of Florida and the legendary seeker of the Fountain of Youth.

Traditional Dominican Lunch Included

A traditional Dominican lunch at one of Boca de Yuma’s local restaurants is included in the tour.

Although the Dominican Republic is surrounded by the sea, seafood restaurants like these are surprisingly rare, as locals generally prefer meat. On weekends, many people drive here from Higüey just to enjoy fresh seafood, so weekdays are usually quieter.

The restaurants are perched on the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, offering beautiful panoramic views while you enjoy your meal.

If you’d like, you can also order fresh seafood such as lobster, shrimp, fish, or octopus for an additional charge.
